TEVISTON, Calif. — The Teviston Drought Resilience Water System Improvement Project has received a 2026 Outstanding Sustainable Engineering Project award from the American Society of Civil Engineers’ San Francisco Section. The project is named in the section’s official list of award winners, recognizing investment in a rural drinking-water system that has faced longstanding reliability and quality challenges.
What engineers say changed
Engineering consultant Provost & Pritchard, a project participant, says improvements have moved the community away from reliance on a single groundwater source and strengthened system redundancy, emergency preparedness and fire protection. The firm says the work benefits approximately 136 service connections. It also reported recognition in two Fresno Branch award categories: sustainable engineering and water projects. Those descriptions are the engineering firm’s account of the project’s benefits, not an independent water-quality laboratory finding.
Earlier public project documents outlined planned wells, water storage, backup generation and distribution improvements. The infrastructure project involved the Teviston Community Services District, its state-appointed administrator, California’s water agencies and construction partners.
An engineering award is not a safe-water certification
The award does not establish that every current tap-water sample meets California drinking-water limits. California’s Drinking Water Watch database separately lists 2026 compliance violations involving 1,2,3-trichloropropane for the Teviston water system. The engineer describes the project as laying groundwork for future water-quality treatment, which is different from a verified statement that contamination has already been eliminated.
Residents can ask the system administrator and the State Water Resources Control Board for the latest sampling results, public notices, treatment plans and any remaining restrictions. A completed infrastructure component, an award and an official compliance determination refer to different questions.
